CLASSIFICATION OF THE VISUAL APPEARANCE OF TIMBER
The Sélection Vosges sawmills classify pieces as a function of the presence, size and distribution of features on the different faces of the timber.
The natural degradation due to fungi and insects are also taken into account.
Features of cutting and of the sawn timbers are also included.

STANDARDS
Our timbers are classified in accordance with the European standard for visual appearance EN 1611-1

FIVE GRADES
Our timbers are classified into five different categories
- Grade 0 Joinery
- Grade 1 Structure and planable
- Grade 2 Framework
- Grade 3 Packaging - crates
- Grade 4 Formwork

METHOD OF MEASUREMENT

The methods of measurement used conform to the European standards EN 1310 for the measurement of features and EN 1311 for the measurement of biological degradation.

OTHER CLASSIFICATIONS
For truss timber there is a visual structure classification method in accordance with the standard NFB 52-001. Three grades are identified: ST1-C30 / ST2-C24 / ST3-C18.
