FIR - Abies Alba - Abies pectinata

TREE
A mountain tree, growing between 400 and 1,100 m, particularly suited to the Vosges mountains. In general, in the Vosges, it grows by natural regeneration.
Very tall tree, very straight, cylindrical and with low taper. Flat needles, erect cones.


CLIMATE
Requiring humidity, in the Vosges it finds the necessary rainfall level and climate on deep and cool soil. Resistant to winter cold and the rigours of altitude.

GROWTH AND FELLING AGE
Slow growth especially in the mountains. Felling between 80 and 150 years.

THE TIMBER
Colour yellow white to pale pink, the grain is generally straight and fine. Does not have resinous canals.
