The management of our forests is carried out in spirit which looks to its permanence and the handing down of our national heritage.

For the Vosges massif, long term management means: the conservation of the wooded areas, the maintenance of the quality and the diversity of the environment. It is, also, allowing the forest to play its ecological, economic and social role.

Far from diminishing, the Lorraine forest is growing. The current production of timber in the Vosges massif remains well below the rate of growth of the forest.

Here are some golden rules of forestry:
- balance of age classes
- diversity of species
- biodiversity
- protection of the Capercaillie
- planting after felling
- selective felling.

Various regulatory frameworks, whose objective is to ensure the protection of both public and private forest areas, surround the forest: for the public forest there is the forest code (PEFC) – for the private forest there is the “PSG – single management plans” which must be implemented for any forest larger than 25 hectares.
